Are Maddy From Euphoria and Adrian From Secret Life Of The American Teenager the same character?

I just finished Euphoria, and… wow.  I felt thoroughly absorbed in the trauma and tragedy surrounding this group of impeccably stylish teenagers.

But… did anyone else notice some parallels between Maddy and Adrian, the sexually empowered Latina from Secret Life of the American Teenager?

Maddy ( Alexa Demie) is hot, hairless, smart, passionate, and sex positive.  She comes from a working class Latino family that cares about her future and she dances on the spirit squad.  

Adrian (Francia Raisa) is hot, smart AND motivated, passionate, and sex- positive.  Adrian has a slutty reputation, but she’s the one telling all the other teen idiots about birth control.  She comes from a working class Latino family that cares about her future and dances on the spirit squad.  She looks like this:

Both girls stand up to people who look down on them.  Both girls have street smarts and sarcastic attitudes.  Both girls have excellent lip gloss.

Sure, Maddy and Adrian have some differences.  Maddy plans to marry rich, while Adrian (initially) plans to support herself.  Maddy has a vindictive streak Adrian avoids.  Of course, the biggest difference is that Maddy is a character on an Emmy- nominated HBO show that insinuates adults have got to quit screwing up their kids, and Adrian is a character on a ABC Family soap opera that suggests women exist to have babies.

Still, is the smart, sexual Latina girl becoming a new trope?  Is this OK?  What do you guys think?
